November 11, 2011.
Dear Community,
Week twelve of the school year ended today.
This week was significant due to the Parent Teacher conferences (PTC's) that were held on Monday and Wednesday. Thank you to those parents who were able to attend. If you could not attend and need to speak with any teacher please contact the school office on 86869999 to schedule an appointment with the teacher concerned. From our records the attendance was the best for some time and we thank everyone for your support. We have 87 families and 136 students. 57 families (66%) attended the PTC's and 93 students (68%) were represented.
Other items for you attention are,

COUNSELOR'S CORNER
The school uses the International Schools Assessment (ISA) testing protocols with the Grade 3 to 10 students in February of a given school year. Please find a more detailed explanation of the ISA below.
What is the International Schools' Assessment (ISA)?
The ISA assessment program is designed especially for students in international schools in Grades 3 to 10. It is based on the internationally endorsed reading and mathematical literacy frameworks of the OECD's Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)
Who uses the ISA?
International schools and schools with an international focus, whose language of instruction is English, take advantage of the ISA.
When is the ISA offered?
AIAN uses the ISA February testing period each year.
What does the ISA provide?
- An assessment with a broad cultural base
- A combination of multiple-choice and open-ended questions and prompts
- Student-level information about what individuals know and can do
- Class- and school-level information that can inform instructional programs
- Information about sub-groups' performance (for example, gender, language group)
- Relevant comparisons between like schools
- International normative information
- Information about growth over time
Uses of ISA
- ISA assessment data can be used by school's to redirect teaching and thus to improve learning
What does the ISA Measure?
- Reading
- Mathematical Literacy
- Writing
It is not possible to specially prepare students for this assessment in the few weeks leading up to it. Rather, it is the work that occurs in school over the year in Math and literacy that is assessed in the tests.
We are proving this information early so that parents and students are aware of the testing and also to help reduce any concerns there may be over being involved in the testing.
