AIAN will be a widely respected school providing a model US based educational program with an internationally minded community.
November 25, 2011.
Dear Community,
Week fourteen of the school year ended today.
The excitement that is in school today is tangible. The Holiday Bazaar organized by the PTA is in full swing and with over thirty vendors in attendance it is proving to be a great success. Don't forget that the Bazaar is running tomorrow, Saturday 26 November, from 9.00 a.m. Please come along and bring your friends and family.
Progress reports for the second quarter also go home today, please watch out for these so that you can keep track of your child's situation. The Elementary School has sent home reports for children with possible concerns. The Middle and High School have sent grades home for every student. As always, if you wish to meet with any teacher please schedule a conference through the school office on 86869999.
Other items for you attention are,
WEDNESDAY EARLY FINISH DAYS.
As you know the faculty uses the time created by the early finish days on selected Wednesday's over the year for WASC preparation. Following the recent visit of WASC we believe we need more time to ensure we are fully prepared for the team visit in April. Thus, the School Board as agreed to provide some additional Wednesday early finishes that help with the WASC process. These additional dates are
December 7
January 18
February 15
March 14
These dates will be placed in the schools events calendar. We run a revised schedule on these Wednesdays and each lesson period is shortened by 7 minutes, so a single class does not lose too much time. We appreciate your support in this regard.
THE DIGITAL SPOT
This has been a very busy and amazing week! In last weeks DIGITAL SPOT I mentioned parental portals and website censors for parents. I have gathered important information related to this topic for you.
Parental Control = Internet Safety
Parental controls are features which may be included in digital television services, computer and video games, mobile phones and computer software. Parental controls fall into roughly four categories; content filters, which limit access to age appropriate content; usage controls, which constrain the usage of these devices such as placing time-limits on usage or forbidding certain types of usage; computer usage management tools, which allow parents to enforce learning time into child computing time and monitoring, which can track location and activity when using the devices.
Whether your child(ren) have a desktop computer, laptop, IPOD, IPHONE or IPAD, you can setup a parental control.
Here is a list of useful free software and tutorials for you:
The Technology Term of the Week
Filter = Content-control software, also known as censor ware or web filtering software. This is a term for software designed and optimized for controlling what content a reader is permitted to access, especially when it is used to restrict material delivered over the Web
I really hope you have found this information useful. I will say goodbye until next week and wish you Happy Thanks g iving for those who celebrate it!
