The Chinese program at Access International Academy Ningbo consists of two parts. One part is Chinese language study, focusing on developing students' conversational, reading, and writing skills, helping students to build a solid language foundation for continuous development and life-long learning. The other part is Chinese culture study, with the goal of helping students gain a deep understanding of Chinese culture and learn to understand, accept, and respect the cultural differences of different countries, teaches students to become global citizens.

Chinese Language Levels
AIAN Chinese program identifies students at three achievement levels based on their proficiency in the Chinese language. These levels are: beginning, intermediate and advanced levels.
Beginning Level: This level is for students who have no or little Chinese language background. Because these students may have no experience with Chinese, our Chinese education needs to start from ABC. Therefore, this level focuses on developing students' interests and confidence in learning Chinese. The goal is to teach students Chinese communication capabilities.

Intermediate Level: This level is for students who have considerable Chinese vocabulary and can engage in conversations on the common topics. Since the students in this level already have the basic language skills for communications, the education in this level focuses on developing students' speaking and reading skills. The goal is to help students speak in Chinese fluently and to display confidence in oral presentations. Except for the conversational development, the learning results also include the ability to read and interpret simple texts.

Advanced Level: This level is for students who speak Chinese as their first language or the students whose language level is near Chinese native speakers. In this level, we focus on developing students' reading and writing skills. Students are expected to have the ability to read a variety of reading materials and write narrative essay.
Teaching Materials
AIAN utilizes two series of Chinese textbooks. They are Chinese Made Easy and Yu Wen. The Chinese Made Easy series has two levels - Chinese Made Easy for Kids and Chinese Made Easy. AIAN uses both language level textbooks.

Language Level Test for New Students
During the first week of each new school year, AIAN administers an entrance exam to all new students (without Chinese language background) in order to correctly place students at the right language level. The entrance test includes two parts - Listening and Speaking.
