You are here : At AIAN > English Language Learners

AIAN is committed to giving exceptional educational opportunities to students of diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds.  Typically, an ELL student at AIAN gains one language level (out of 5) per year.   If a student enters with very limited English proficiency, the student is generally placed in the mainstream courses within 2years.

Prior to admittance, all new applicants will be assessed to determine their English proficiency.  AIAN accepts English learners of all levels in the Pre-School and Elementary School, Nursery ¨C Grade 5. However, students who are applying must have proof of high achievement scores on their report cards/school records in their native language.

In the Middle and High School only advanced and intermediate speakers of English who have appropriate language skills and are able to function and succeed in the programs will be considered for admission.

An ELL support program is available in High School, Grades 9-12. All ELL students are expected to acquire an appropriate level of English to function outside of ELL courses by the end of Grade 8.
